Pray First // Spring Renewal
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger… Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” ~ Ephesians 4:31–32 (NIV)
March 1st marks the beginning of Meteorological Spring. That always makes me smile a little, especially when there’s still snow on the ground here in New Durham. The calendar says the season has changed, even if it doesn’t quite look like it yet. The days are getting longer. The light is different. Something is happening beneath the surface before we can fully see it.
The same is true with our walks with Jesus.
Paul’s words to the Ephesians are direct. Get rid of bitterness. Put away anger. Let go of malice. Be kind. Be compassionate. Forgive as Christ forgave you. It’s not complicated, but it is searching. Over time, things can settle into our hearts quietly beneath the surface: disappointment, fatigue, frustration, even subtle resentment. We don’t always notice it happening. Ministry life. Family life. Responsibility. It all adds up.
Spring is a natural time to clear things out. Maybe this month is an opportunity for you to do the same spiritually. Is there someone you need to forgive? Is there something you’ve been carrying that needs to be laid down? Has joy faded under the weight of everything you’re responsible for? Renewal doesn’t start with trying harder. It starts with letting the Lord look at our hearts honestly and trusting Him to do what only He can do.
So when you pray this month, start with yourself. Ask the Lord to search your heart. Ask Him to clear out what doesn’t belong. Ask Him to restore joy and steadiness in your walk with Him. Then, as the Lord leads, pray with us for Maranatha - for our guests, volunteers, and staff members who will visit our campus in the months ahead. Pray that God would do deep, quiet work beneath the surface long before anyone sees the fruit.
